Crowborough is a long way from my London sessions by rail, so most people here have their psychic or medium reading on Zoom, at the kitchen table or with Ashdown Forest outside the window. A London sitting is possible too: the Uckfield line reaches London Bridge in about an hour and a quarter, with the address sent once you book.
Sir Arthur Conan Doyle lived in Crowborough for more than twenty years, and by the end of his life he was almost as well known for his spiritualism as for Sherlock Holmes. He wrote and lectured about mediumship with real passion, and his statue still stands in the town. So if you live in Crowborough and have found yourself curious about mediums, you are in good historical company.
My own name is Michelle Virtue. I'm a professionally trained Psychic Medium, Spiritual Coach and Intuitive Teacher, and London is where I am based; there are no sessions with me in Crowborough itself or elsewhere in the Weald. This page is about mediumship above all, both sitting with a medium and learning to work as one, because that is where Crowborough's own story points.
Conan Doyle's Crowborough and the question of mediumship
In Conan Doyle's day, spiritualism often meant darkened rooms, séances and dramatic claims, and some of what was offered back then did not stand up. He believed sincerely, and he was not always well served by the people he trusted. That history is worth remembering, because it explains why I work the way I do.
It also explains why people in a town like this tend to arrive with good questions. Some have read about the Victorian and Edwardian séance rooms and want to know what, if anything, has changed. Some grew up hearing that the man who invented the world's most logical detective believed in life after death, and find that intriguing rather than odd. Some simply walk past the statue every week and have wondered. All of those are fine reasons to be curious, and none of them obliges you to believe anything before we start.
Modern mediumship, at its best, is quieter and more careful. There is no theatre and no table-tapping. A good medium describes what they receive, checks it with you, and is honest when the link is weak. You should come away with details you can recognise, not a story you had to help write. If you are cautious, that is healthy. Bring your caution with you and ask me anything you like.
What a medium reading from Crowborough involves today
When you book one of my psychic medium readings, we start by settling. I explain how I work, then I open up and pass on what comes: perhaps a description of someone, the way they spoke, a place they loved, something they want you to know. I ask whether each piece fits rather than guessing at meaning. No one can guarantee who will come through, and I won't promise a particular person. A sitting may bring someone through with great clarity, or it may offer guidance and comfort by another route.
The sitting works just as well on screen as face to face. Plenty of people in Crowborough, Rotherfield and Jarvis Brook find an online sitting over Zoom the gentler choice: a photograph can stay on the table beside you, and afterwards there is a walk on the forest instead of a train home. Readings offer guidance and comfort, and they are not a substitute for medical, psychological, legal or financial advice.
Without me telling her the whole story, she knew it already.

Training as a medium near Ashdown Forest
Some people don't want to sit with a medium. They want to learn to do it themselves, often because they have been sensing spirit people for years with no one to talk to about it. I teach this in stages, and I take it seriously, because working with Spirit asks for steadiness, ethics and good boundaries.
Starting with the foundations
Before anyone works as a medium, I want them to be solid in their own psychic awareness. My psychic development courses are a three-level live group programme, and there is a private one-to-one version of that ground too. You learn to ground and protect yourself, to notice how your intuition speaks, and to build discernment, so that real impressions don't get muddled with imagination or worry.
Moving towards mediumship
Once those foundations are in place, dedicated mediumship training focuses on the link with Spirit itself: how to recognise when someone draws close, how to give evidence clearly, and how to deliver messages kindly and responsibly. I am supportive, but I am also firm. You will practise, you will be stretched, and you will always be asked whether you feel ready before we go further. Sessions can be online or in London, and I will explain the present format and when the next group begins when we first speak.
Ashdown Forest is a good companion for this kind of learning. The heathland and the open views from the high ground give you somewhere to practise the quiet attention that mediumship relies on. A simple practice like noticing what you sense before you start thinking can be done on any walk there, and it builds the trust that training depends on.
Is the Uckfield line practical for a London sitting from Crowborough?
It is, with a little planning. Southern trains run on the Uckfield line from Crowborough station, which is down at Jarvis Brook, to London Bridge in about an hour and a quarter. If you live in Uckfield, you can board further down the same route. The service is not the most frequent, so check times before you book and leave yourself some leeway.
We only ever meet face to face in London, at a booked time, and the details of where arrive with your confirmation. If the train runs late, please don't panic. I would rather you arrive calm than on time and flustered.
Because services on this line are not especially frequent, build the day around the timetable rather than the other way round. A midday sitting usually lets you travel after the morning peak and be home before dark in winter. If a mediumship sitting is likely to leave you tired, or the trip simply isn't practical that week, Zoom from home spares you the long ride back.
I was late getting to my appointment yet she gave me time to get to her and did not rush through the reading.

A first conversation, before you decide
For most people the first step is the free Intuitive Clarity Consultation. It is 20 minutes on Zoom and it isn't a reading. We talk about what has drawn you here, whether that is a loss, a curiosity about mediumship or a sense that your own abilities are waking up, and I suggest what might fit. All clients and students must be 18 or over.
